Retelling Raymond Chandler
From each chapter of Raymond Chandler's novel, The Big Sleep, I created ordered lists of words and phrases that allude to the story's sequential plot line. From these lists, I footnoted selected words in order to reference related excerpts from throughout the novel. These excerpts gave specific details about the places and characters, while also revealing information in a non-linear format. The combination of lists and excerpts requires the reader to become a detective and piece the story together from the clues provided. The final piece was a two-part reading that was performed at "An Incomplete Map of Everything: an interdisciplinary festival of language, performance and sound" at Links Hall in Chicago.
